Constructing A Legacy

Today, HRI, Inc. is a diversified construction company with expertise in highways, airports, water, sewer, treatment plants, bridges, and paving. HRI also has six asphalt plants. Our company benefits from being part of a much larger organization while still maintaining local control over our activities and preserving close ties to the communities we serve.

HRI continues its legacy of over 75 years, contributing to the construction industry's growth and development in the United States.

1947: HRI, Inc. is Established

Herbert R. Imbt founded and managed HRI, Inc. as a family-owned and operated paving company and hot mix asphalt manufacturer serving central Pennsylvania.

1986: Acquisition by Koppers

After over 40 years in business, Imbt sold HRI to Koppers, a Pittsburgh-based company aiming to expand into the construction materials business. At the time, Koppers was the second-largest aggregate business in the USA.

1988: Beazer Group Acquires Koppers

The Beazer Group, a construction company from England, acquired Koppers, including HRI. However, Beazer faces challenges due to significant environmental liabilities and a global property recession. Seeking assistance, Beazer turns to Hanson PLC, which acquired the building materials division, including HRI. Hanson PLC was a global player in the construction industry.

1999: Colas, Inc. Acquires HRI

HRI remained part of Hanson PLC until it was purchased in 1999 by Colas, Inc., a worldwide leader in the construction industry with numerous construction businesses throughout the United States.

Today, HRI, Inc. benefits from being part of a much larger organization while still maintaining local control over our activities and close ties to the communities we serve.

April 2017: Subsidiary of Barrett Industries Corp., A Colas USA Company

HRI became a subsidiary of Barrett Industries Corp., marking a new chapter in its history within the Barrett Industries family.
